Infectious diseases refer to damage and inflammatory responses in local body tissues caused by the invasion of pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and mycoplasmas. Infectious diseases pose a serious threat to human health and have become one of the most significant public health issues globally. In China, infectious diseases account for over 50% of all diseases; 75% of patients with hematologic malignancies and 50% of patients with solid tumors die due to infections, with mortality rates for septic (severe infection) patients reaching as high as 50%. Clinically, over two-thirds of infectious diseases remain undiagnosed in terms of their pathogens, leading to a lack of targeted treatment and frequent instances of empirical trial and error. This dilemma is particularly acute in cases of severe clinical infectious diseases, especially those caused by difficult-to-diagnose or rare pathogens. Rapid and accurate diagnosis is a crucial prerequisite for effective treatment, monitoring of the condition, and controlling the spread of disease.
Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) technology, with its unique advantages of not relying on culture and directly detecting all nucleic acids in samples, is gradually becoming a powerful tool for clinical infection diagnosis. Bingyuan Shengkang, leveraging core experimental techniques, bioinformatics algorithms, and sequencing platforms, has successfully launched a metagenomic detection product for pathogenic microorganisms, providing clinicians with a new diagnostic perspective. This product can detect tens of thousands of pathogens at once and reveal associated resistance and virulence genes, breaking the limitations of traditional microbial testing and offering more comprehensive and in-depth information for clinical practice.
